At first, I resented the "rich girl" complaining but then, I was encouraged to keep reading as the dysfunction in this family became apparent.
This is a very interesting look at Tori's life growing up a "rich kid" from HER perspective. I would recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of Tori's. It is both comical and at times tear jerking. It is just an honest, down to earth recollection of special times spent with family (especially her father) and also not so special times but memorable just the same. If you're not a fan, I would recommend reading the book and you may just find that Tori is a much different, more down to earth person than you may think. I give it a definite 5 stars.
Something I haven't done in over twenty years. For someone who grew up with such wealth, she does seem strangely down-to-earth. She could have totally spun it differently, but she simply decided to put it out there and you have to respect the girl for that. I guess that's what made this book so real to me. You have to give her credit for being honest about her life. She really did not sugar coating anything, including her admitted affair with her current husband, Dean. I read this book from cover to cover after I purchased it today. I have to admit that it really made me think of my own estranged relationship with my own mother.
She does seem to be embracing motherhood very well. Her book does explain her estranged relationship with her mother, Candy Spelling. That's the most important job any woman can ever do. I admit I watched 90210 when it first came out like most teenagers did back then. Tori Spelling is one amazing woman. I have something really "huge" in common with Tori Spelling.
I have never been the biggest Tori fan. I also have watched her in her current reality series on Oxygen. I look forward to reading her follow-up book Mommywood. Go Tori, go.
But with perspective she is still thankful for her childhood. I enjoy her reality show with her husband dean and their two kids. I have really enjoyed reading this book, I have been a fan of Tori's for quite a while. There are things she would change if you could but who doesn't. So I was very interested in ready this book. I must say I was impressed with her impression of her life, talking about all the luxuries that were handed to her but all she really wanted was to be normal. I read some of the bad reviews for this book and feel like those people were not reading for insight they were reading to make more judgments. Tori, thanks for taking the time to share your life so openly for us.
I read the book very quickly because I did not want to put it down. I recently started watching the Tori & Dean reality show and decided to give the book a try after watching about it on the show. I was pleasantly surprised, her writing style is very down to earth, humorous and engaging. She really put herslf in the book and after reading it, you feel like you are one of her best friends and that you really know her. I am looking forward to reading her next book, Mommywood and hopefully there will be more to follow.
